The Web Publishing Service for Small Concerns

Components

Add a bit of 'stickiness' to your site and bring back visitors time and again with one of our attractive web site components.

Some of the most frequently used web site components, such as hit counters and guest books, are driven by CGI scripts. These resources are freely available from a number of locations on the web, but usually come packaged so that the provider's logo is emblazoned on the page wherever the resource or script is used. If you prefer not to offer free advertising to other companies, Dotquake Web Services can supply the following (and many more) resources for anonymous use on any site which has access to its server's cgi-bin directory (commonly used to store CGI scripts) and/or server side includes.

If you don't have this type of access under your existing ISP, we can even host them for you from Dotquake's own secure web space.

Guest Book
A guest book is often used to encourage visitors to a web site to leave messages regarding what they think of the web site, or any other topic, or just to indicate that they have, indeed, visited the site. These messages are retained and are freely viewable by any other visitor to the site in question. It is a simple process to filter and censor any messages which might be deemed offensive or in bad taste.
Hit Counter
A basic hit counter is included as standard with any of our packages but hit counters can come in all shapes and sizes, visible or hidden, graphical or text based. Hit counters can even provide you with information about your visitors, where they've come from, what type of browser they're using, what time of day your site is most popular, etc.
Message/Bulletin Board
A message or bulletin board is a very powerful script which allows your site to host a forum type discussion area. Visitors can start their own 'thread' (topic for discussion) to which others may post follow-ups, or they can simply respond to any thread already started by anyone else. As with the guset book script, it is a simple process to censor offensive postings and all information is freely viewable by all other visitors. to the web site in question.
Subscription/Mailing List
A utility allowing your visitors to subscribe to any sort of service you might offer, either freely or at a cost. This will then allow you, as the owner of your web site, to periodically email these subscribers with news about your organisation or its services. This utility is usually provided alongside a secure administration are (see below).
Password Protection
At times you might want certain areas of your web site to only be accessible to authorised visitors. This is commonly achieved by issueing these visitors with a unique user name and password which they must enter at a pre-designated point on your site to access any of the protected pages. Again, this utility is usually provided with an administration area allowing you to manage your database of visitors.
Secure Administration Area
Along the lines of the above password protection utility, a secure administration area can be provided in order for the owner of a web site to manage its content with no requirement for any sort of technical knowledge or knbow how. For example, a web site which, by necessity, needs to be updated on a weekly basis might be done so in a secure administration area and the pages within the site would be dynamically updated 'on the fly' as they are visited.
Advanced Imaging Techniques
Commonly known as 'image rollovers' or 'image swapping', the pictures on a web site can be manipulated in many different ways. For example, when a visitor hovers their mouse over a picture it might display relevant information or show a larger version of the picture, or you could display a dynamic gallery of changing images, similar to the 'Quickfolio' side bar on this site.
Databasing
A comprehensive, relational database can be a very expensive requirement. If your site requires any sort of database we can provide the necessary programming and scripting at a very low price. Dotquake Web Services specialise in the provision of fully functional and secure small databases which your visitors will see as an important and useful service provided by your web site.
